In 1919, a pharmaceutical distributor called S.A.F.A was founded in Spain.
In 1923, ANZAG was founded through a merger of two wholesale businesses, later becoming one of the leading pharmaceutical wholesalers in Germany
In 1938, the UniChem group was formed in the UK by Ernest Skues to wholesale pharmaceutical products to independent pharmacies.
In 1977, the pharmaceutical wholesaler Alleanza Farmaceutica was founded in Italy by Stefano Pessina.
In 1982, the pharmaceutical wholesaler Di Pharma was founded by Ornella Barra in Italy.
The Alliance Santé group was formed in 1991 by a merger between Alleanza Salute Italia and two French pharmaceutical wholesalers.
Following a merge between the UniChem group and Alliance Santé, Alliance UniChem was formed in 1997.
Shortly after the merger between Alliance Santé and the UniChem group, Alliance UniChem acquired S.A.F.A.
At the turn of the millennium, Alliance UniChem acquired Interpharm and took a 25% stake in Hedef, a Turkish pharmaceutical wholesaler.
In 2004, Alliance UniChem acquired 29.99% of ANZAG, a German pharmaceutical wholesaler.
In 2006, Boots and Alliance UniChem merged, forming Alliance Boots.
After the merger of Boots and Alliance UniChem, Alliance Boots wholesale businesses began to rebrand to Alliance Healthcare.
In 2010, Alliance Boots became the majority shareholder in Hedef Alliance and ANZAG, after initial investments in 2000 and 2004, respectively.
After the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots in 2014, following a strategic partnership in 2012, Walgreens Boots Alliance was formed.
In 2016, Hedef Alliance was rebranded to Alliance Healthcare Turkey.
